Thanks to the persistence of Adam Rosen of Oakbog Professional Services and his Vintage Mac Museum, we can now watch the movie files on Drew’s Disk!
The movies were made in MacroMind VideoWorks, the predecessor of Macromedia Director. Adam first viewed the files on a MacPlus but was unable to get the audio to work. After running the files on two different SE/30s, he was able to hear the sound. Another challenge he faced was not having any way to export the files. He used his iPhone to take video of the files as they played. In order to get good focus, he had to include the edges of the computer. When I received the files, I used Camtasia to capture the video onscreen and created new files that were cropped so you just see the screen. However, some are more closely cropped than others in order to make sure the animations on the bottom of the screen could be seen well. If you would like the original files, please email me.
Notes from Adam: “There are 12 movies in total. Some have audio throughout, some have sound with silent sections, others are totally silent. We may be missing some elements, there’s a note on the disk to “load the other disk first” – that may have contained other resources?…This is definitely an entertaining package, I can see Drew was a talented guy to do this in high school.”
He sure was.
Enjoy!
