WRITER - PRODUCER
JEN PLANTE JOHNSON
writer | director | producer | performer
I’m a writer, independent film and podcast producer, and performer, committed to building a more inclusive world—one project at a time.
Rooted in storytelling that uplifts underrepresented voices, my work spans documentary, narrative film, podcasting, and live performance.
Whether on set or behind the mic, I believe in the power of collaboration to empower communities and shift perspectives.
Documentary
In post-production:
RAISING US (producer), a feature-length documentary that traces the legacy of parent advocacy in the disability rights movement. The film follows five Massachusetts mothers—my own included—who, over 50 years, fought for their children with Down syndrome and autism to be seen, heard, and included.
In production:
-
I AM TED (producer), a short documentary spotlighting Lindsay Cherry, founder of I AM Academy, and her mission to guide Black high school students in Holland, MI, as they craft and deliver their own TEDx talks and beyond.
-
RED ALERT (producer), a collaborative climate doc capturing the creative partnership between artist Joel Schoon-Tanis and activist Ken Freestone, exploring biodiversity through art, education, and action.
Podcast
GEAR UP! ADVENTURES IN PARENTHOOD (producer), a thoughtful and often hilarious parenting podcast hosted by clinical social workers Heather Bouwman and Kristina Boersma. Produced in collaboration with ODC Network, this series blends professional insight and personal stories to help parents navigate the joys and challenges of raising kids today. Available on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, and all major platforms.
Narrative
Exploring identity, legacy, and the beautifully messy moments of being human:
-
MISSES PICKLES (producer | director | actor) – a dark comedy short film about two women on a surreal road trip (currently on the festival circuit).
-
OUT OF BOUNDS (writer | producer) – a politically charged sibling heist with heart and hilarity.
-
OWNING IT (writer | producer) – an award-winning dramedy series in development about identity, adoption, and the search for biological roots.
-
TEN DAYS TO TEKOA (writer | producer) – an historical drama following two teenage girls orphaned during the Civil War, inspired by real events.
My Why
- To tell stories that matter.
- To champion voices that need to be heard.
- To help shape a more inclusive, empathetic world by sharing stories that cut through the noise.
- To seek authenticity, amplify hope and shine a light on the transformative power of love and perseverance.
